Sugar River Bike Trails

Sugar River State Bike Trails

The Sugar River State Trail follows an abandoned railroad line in south central Wisconsin for 24 miles from New Glarus to Brodhead. Fourteen trestle bridges cross over the Sugar River and its tributaries, while the trail passes by farmlands, woods, rolling hills, scenic meadows, remnant prairies, and glacial topography. North of Brodhead, the trail goes over a replica covered bridge. The trail has also been designated as a National Recreational Trail.

Cheese Country ATV Trail

The multi-use Tri County Trail is located in southern Wisconsin. Passing through wooded areas, prairies, marshes, and small towns on the path of a former railroad bed, the trail is extremely popular with ATV's, dirt bikes, and motorcycles. The trail is also open to hikers, bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and those riding horses. The winter season welcomes snowmobilers.

Green County Historical Meseum

Located in Monroe, the Green County Historical Society Museum is housed in the former Universalist Church that was built in 1861. The Museum is open during the summer. It includes an archive with letters, papers, and newspaper articles of historical interest about Green County. There is also the original Bethel one-room schoolhouse on the Museum grounds.

Depot Museum

Brodhead Depot Museum

The Brodhead Historical Society's museum is housed in the restored Milwaukee Road depot, built in 1881. It houses a variety of displays, some permanent and some rotating. Recent displays included vintage cheese making equipment, musical instruments, broom-making equipment and displays from early Brodhead businesses. On display on the track behind the depot, is a Milwaukee Road locomotive and caboose.
